PET PAWTRAITS - LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION

So you're thinking about booking a pet pawtrait session but you're not sure where to go. Friend, you've come to the right place.

Before you lock in a location there are a few things worth considering:

Are you comfortable taking your dog off lead?
Where is your pet comfortable? - Favourite walking spots
How busy are your favourite spots?
What happens if there are other dogs around?
How do handle being in the car?
Is there water/mud etc that they can het into (and potentially shake/jump all over you before the photos)

While I'm happy to make anywhere work - considering these matters will make for a smoother experience for you and your pet. We want them to be comfortable so somewhere familiar is always a good idea. Yes, leads can be removed in post, but if your dog is well behaved off lead and has reliable recall, having the ability to move freely is helpful in getting more natural, animated portraits.

Scenic spots such as rivers, grassy fields, bush make for beautiful photos - but they also have to work for you and your pet.

If taking one or more pets out on location feels like a too hard basket situation - you may not need to look any further than the comfort of your own home.

Take a look at the photos below. All of these were taken at home - no need for leads, safe, secure, familiar, and the place where these pets and their preople spend most of their time together - the location becomes part of the story, and part of the memories too.

Of course pawtraits aren't just for dogs - all pets are welcome here, but the more obscure or flighty your pet, the stronger the argument for capturing these moments at home. Safety first.
